When asked why she chose Sheridan as the location for her company, started in 2007, professional photographer and Intimate Portraits, LLC founder and owner Megan Stanislaw said, “Well some of it was the connections that I already had here. When you’re trying to make a living in a niche market like photography in a place like Denver, where we lived before, it can be really hard. Having grown up here in Sheridan, though, I knew everybody. My clients weren’t just random people, they were my friends, family, co-workers, people who went to my church, and the people who are part of the community.” From an early age, Stanislaw showed a love and talent for photography, an affinity that was nurtured at home: “My Dad was all about supporting my love for photography. For my high school graduation, he gifted me with my first film camera. After I graduated from Northwest College with a degree in photography, he invested in helping me to start out.”
Throughout her formal education and beginning of her career, even through her own self-doubts, Meg’s husband, Dwight, has been a constant beacon of support: “You know, it’s one thing to have friends and family support you, which of course I’m grateful for, but there’s something different about having a spouse look at your work and love it, even when you’re not so sure yourself.” Meg has always loved to work with people, relishing the intimacy (hence her company’s name) of portraiture. Before launching her business and pursuing her present career path, she worked as an assistant in the world of fashion photography, but found that the mechanical routine lacked a certain human connection. This is clear when one walks into Intimate Portraits, as the walls are decorated with masterful portraits of Sheridanites and the many others who have sought out her artistic talents. It is clear that not only does Stanislaw excel at her craft, she truly cares about her clients and attempts to establish relationships with them. We look forward to seeing what else she will bring to the Sheridan community going forward.
