Have you been searching, desperately, for that one perfect festival? Well, look no further, provided you really like bikes, beer, and events with names based on “October” puns. Biketoberfest, put on by the Sheridan Community Land Trust, is gearing up for it’s 6th year of bike races, fun runs, and all other sorts of two-wheeled rowdiness. The Land Trust here in Sheridan is largely responsible for a number of awesome outdoor projects in the county like the Soldier Ridge Trail, the Red Grade trail system on, well, Red Grade, as well as a number of trail and river projects in the Tongue River area, and Biketoberfest helps raise the necessary funds to maintain those projects.

Whether you’re a veteran cyclist or a newbie, October 8 at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds has something in store for you. In addition to some standard bike races using the Soldier Ridge trail, this year’s event has some unique new events. There’s a fat bike relay with your own team of 4, meaning you can pretend it’s not even your fault if you don’t win. So get your 3 most strapping pals and start pedaling, or dig out that box of odd costumes for the Lederhosen-500 relay, which is shorter than the 2 mile fat bike relay, but also far more, well, costumed. There’s actually an opportunity for you to win prizes twice in the Lederhosen relay, one for finishing first and another for costumes, that’s right two gold medals, not there will necessarily be any medals, and if there are, they likely won’t actually be gold. But you get the gist.

Specifics can be found on the Land Trust website, where you can also register for the mentioned awesome events as well as some other fun things. Register soon, as each event’s registration fee changes at October 1. Now, all fees from your registration do go to support the Land Trust and all the good they’ve done and plan to do in the future, so if you want to support them a little more, practice your procrastination and sign up in October. When you register for your event(s), you’ll not only get the opportunity to show off your costumed cycling prowess, but you’ll also get an event shirt and two tokens for some tasty beverages from Black Tooth Brewery, provided you’re of age.

October is coming fast, folks, and so is the fest, hence the name. We’re sure excited to see you all at this year’s Biketoberfest, Lederhosen or not.
