It’s finally here, folks, the Sheridan WYO Rodeo. For 87 years, a hardworking committee of community oriented individuals passionate about animals and rodeo have been putting on the biggest event in Sheridan County. Now, it’s not the same individuals who put this on every year, but still, pretty cool community wide commitment. With raucous rodeos Wednesday through Saturday, it’s a week of gettin’ WYO’d.

Of course, Rodeo week isn’t just the rodeo. No no, there’s the carnival, the street dance, the parade, there’s your entire family in town, your typical parking spots always occupied, and there’s those people wearing a hat and boots who you know don’t deserve them. But hey, let’s give them a pass. This is their week to pretend like they’re one of us, and heck, since when do we turn people away who just want to be a part of Wyoming culture, even if their ideas of Wyoming culture are somewhat diluted? Since, like, never, if you ask us.

The first WYO Rodeo took place in 1931, when a group of Sheridanites wanted to give the tiny village a push. Since year one, it’s been a roaring success backed by the entire community. There were a few years early in the WYO’s career during which wartime and other financial limitations prevented our town from hosting the professional rodeo we’ve come to know and love, but it’s back and it’s been back, and the folks on this year’s committee are ready to give you one of the best shows yet.

Rodeo is a time to revel in the spirit of competition, strength, hard work, and passion. So if you haven’t yet, get your tickets for 2017’s Sheridan WYO Rodeo. We hope to see you all there, let’s get WYO’d.
