Nestled in the Bighorn Mountains lies a stretch of land covered in powdery snow just waiting to get shredded.

The Antelope Butte Ski Lodge brought joy to Wyoming mountaineers from 1960 until its closure in 2004. Since 2011, The Antelope Butte Foundation has worked tirelessly to reopen it’s doors and share it’s 500-acre majesty with the world. (Well, mostly northern Wyoming, but the rest of the world is welcome, too.)10616655_673281599417079_5659073552780722233_n

On Friday, February 18th, the ABF’s annual Ullr Ball will be hosted at the Best Western Sheridan Center in an attempt to gain support and financial assistance for Antelope Butte’s rebirth. The main initiative set forward is to purchase, renovate, and reopen the Antelope Butte Recreation Area. Not only is the Ullr Ball a fundraising opportunity, but it also serves as a celebration of Wyoming winters and recreation, and Sheridan itself.

At this year’s ball, the first ever “Ullr Honor” will be presented, an award to recognize those who have made substantial contributions to the Antelope Butte Foundation’s cause. Featured at the ball will be silent auctions, with items such as a one night stay & ski package at Grand Targhee, a Buffalo Systems Jacket, a five day/four night stay in Cancun and more. Heavy appetizers and drinks will be served. Joining in the revelry will be distinguished Sheridan musicians, the Craft Brothers.

Tickets are $35 per person or $60 for couples and can be purchased at Antelope Butte Foundation’s website.

To some, the Antelope Butte Area is just a hill with chair lifts. To others, it represents Wyoming’s proud culture of mountain recreation, a symbol promoting physical fitness, self-confidence and civic appreciation. To let it fade away would be to close the book on a chapter of Wyoming history and tradition.
